I posted on facebook today that I don't think I am cut out to be a mom. Mainly because I often find myself staring at my kids in horror, wondering what in the world I am supposed to do now. The most recent was last night and into this morning.
Last night, I found a big glob of hair in the garbage. The only people in this house that have hair are Hadlee and myself and I knew it wasn't mine. I haven't chopped any of my hair off lately. So I pulled it out and asked Hadlee what in the crap it was. After a few minutes of hemming and hawing, I find out that she has cut some of her hair off because it was itching her.
So she is grounded the next day and goes to bed (it was almost time anyway). This morning she informs me that last night, she didn't want to get in trouble for getting out of her bed so she peed on the floor in her room.
Yes,
my six (almost 7) year old DAUGHTER peed on the floor in her room.
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT?
Short of grounding her and taking her to the pound (which is what I did with the cats when they started peeing places they shouldn't AND KNEW BETTER)
Well first, she is grounded some more, and what else?
Tell her to clean it up, right?
Right.
That's what I will do.
I gave her the bucket and the scrub brush and told her to get scrubbing.
But then I notice she is having fun cleaning it.
Yeah,
why wouldn't she be having fun cleaning up urine from the carpet?
It's fun!!
I should have been more excited when I found out.
So then I decide this shouldn't be fun, so I take away the scrub brush and do it myself. Now she is unhappy because she is supposed to be cleaning it.
So the punishment for her is watching ME have all the pee cleaning fun.
I sure showed her.
Is it wrong that I would have been more understanding if she were a boy?!
I expect this kind of thing from boys.
They are gross.
They do these things. NOT GIRLS.
Is that sexist?
I don't know what it is.
I am just feeling lately like I am not doing something I am supposed to be if these things are happening when she is at an age that she should know better.
I am missing something, or slacking, or just don't know what the heck I am doing.
Or maybe all of the above.

Oh I am with you on this one. Most of the time I feel like I am doing things wrong. I always wanted to discipline like Bill Cosby. It always seemed like he had the most creative and effective punishments. But I find when I am in the moment of anger all I can think to do is ground them.
I love that the punishment was for you to have all of the pee cleaning fun. That is THE BEST. I can't help but laugh. Hang in there. It will get better!!!!!!!
The real punishment will be when you tell her future boyfriends about this little episode. You'll get the last laugh then!
Haha! Well, she was scared to get out of her bed..we mean business at night. Max peed in our trash can once...but he was sleep walking. But he also doo dooed in the church grass. I think that's grounds for the pound for sure!
hahahaha. I seriously love you. Thanks for making me almost pee on my floor laughing.
