I don't think it's a secret that I have been having a hard time lately (This is by no means a cry for help). I think it's okay to admit that, but I never do. Probably because it's awkward. Can you imagine that conversation?
Random person: How are you doing?
Me: Not good.
awkward pause.
RP: Uh, okayyyyyy.
So I just give the less awkward, "Good, how are you doing?" It's way better to focus the attention off of myself and side-step any conversational land mines.
I am not saying that I am about to blow my brains out or run my car off the road. I am just saying it's been a rough couple months. It should be though. It's not supposed to be easy is it? Is anything really supposed to be easy. (Don't tell me your life is always easy or it might send me over the edge)
I just moved to a place I don't know, we are poor (what else is new), we have 1 car, I am surrounded by sex offenders and my oven should probably be considered a toy it's so small. Don't get me started on my stove top. Can you blame me fore being down every other day or so? I think it has just been a period of adjustment. That's normal, right? Change isn't always bad, but it isn't always easy. I might have gone through it in Hawaii but I don't remember and I might not have because it was Hawaii and I was in Hawaii.
Anyway, I feel like it's now okay to admit that I was having a hard time because I think it's over. See, it's less awkward for everyone to hear.
We went to the beach the last couple days with my dad and we all loved it. I know we have been to Disneyland a bazillion times but this is more my cup of tea. Sitting on the beach, soaking up the sun with a good book. Or just walking along the pier, or sitting on the beach and watching the waves crash. Maybe it's something in my DNA, but the water makes me feel better. I think if we went to the beach every so often, I might actually start to like this blasted place. Maybe one of my New Year's resolutions should be to like it here. And now for 8 thousand pictures.
The day before yesterday, we walked along the pier and then ate dinner with my dad, Jan and Lynne.
Yesterday and today we played in the water. When I say "we," I mean, my kids. That water was in the mid-upper 50s. If you aren't familiar with water temperatures, that is FREAKING COLD. (Like the kind of cold that makes you want to die) Apparently, my kids didn't care. I guess you if you keep them away from the beach for 6 months, they will settle for anything.
Matthew and the kids built a sand castle. Calvin swayed back and forth between helping and destroying.
Calvin insisted I bury him in the sand, which he calls "chicken." I am not sure why.
Today we went to Seal Beach again and ate lunch and played in the water again. Matthew is such a good uncle. :)
My dad brought his boogie boards today and the kids were in the water more than the day before.
They caught some pretty good waves. Tyler and I just sat on the beach and talked about how insane our kids are for getting in that water. My dad got in but he wore a WET SUIT! You know if my dad is wearing a wet suit, it's ridiculously cold. I am sure they would go back tomorrow if we'd let them. Honestly, I don't think we are even going to get in the car tomorrow. We have done so much driving over the past couple weeks, I don't know if I can take another minute of it!
Here's to coming around to loving California!
