Good-bye Halloween

We had our apartment decorated for most of October. Today we took the decorations down. We were done with all the festivities yesterday so it was time for the decorations to go. When we were buying them, we went with cheap and scary. I wasn't planning on shipping any Halloween decorations home, so in the garbage they went. Calvin was helping shove stuff in the garbage sack and take it out to the dumpster. (I think most of the decorations have been scaring him since day 1.) Hadlee on the other hand, kept trying to gather them up and take them to her room.

Calvin was especially exited to see the bat go. He personally put him in the garbage sack.

The ghosts went around the whole room, it was surprising how much brighter it was when we took that down.

Bye Halloween.

Trick or Treating

Saturday was Trick or Treating day, so after the TVA party, we hit the town. The people here are pretty serious about their trick or treating. So serious, they closed off one of the roads with those orange cones. There were so many people. It was like a giant trunk or treat but with houses. Everyone decorates. We went to Moana and Iosepa Streets.

Hadlee started eating candy right after she got some.

This house didn't have treats, but they had built a haunted house in their garage. I had to go in and take a picture. The kids were so scared I had to to hold Hadlee's hand and take her in.

Calvin didn't want to go in at all.

On the way home you have to take a picture in front of the temple, right?

Hadlee when we said she could have 1 treat and then go to bed. Don't feel too badly for her, she had been eating candy the whole night while trick or treating. My little multi-tasker!

TVA Halloween Party

They had a Halloween party for family housing.

Calvin won the costume contest for his age. But can I just say that I don't think they should have contests? Why not just have all the kids go up there, say what they are, do a little turn, give them a piece of candy and have everyone cheer? I don't know why everything has to be a competition. I felt bad for the kids who didn't get cheers as loud as the others. (that's how they decided, the kid who got the loudest cheers won.) Especially the kids in the age group above Calvin's. I think every kid thinks their costume is the best, why not just let them keep thinking that? Anyway, I wasn't even going to have my kids go up there, but they both wanted to.

Tyler decided to dress up at the last minute. Can you guess who he is? Don't you wish the mullet were real? OOOOH BABY!

Tyler also went up there. He tied for first and won this little gem. When they asked who he was, he said, "50 percent of the male population of my home town." I hope he was talking about Wellington.....We all know Price isn't like that!

Halloween Parade

Calvin was Aang for Halloween. If you don't watch the cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender," you are missing out. We love it. And when I say "we," I mean the whole family.

Hadlee was Katara

Aang has a flying bison that they travel around on.
The movie "The Last Airbender" came out this year and it was kind of a bummer when it came to Halloween because all the costumes you could buy looked like what they wore in the movie, not in the cartoon. And the cartoon is what we love so I was forced to make the costumes. It went okay, but I have never realized how hard it is to find SPECIFIC colors of fabric. Especially when I don't know where the fabric store is.

This is my buddy before school for the Halloween parade

Him with Appa, who doubled as his treat bag.
Yesterday I went to Wal-mart to buy material to make Hadlee's treat bag. I was going to make her a canteen looking one and I wasn't sure what to do for Calvin. I was planning on settling for just a boring bag that matched his costume. But on the way I got an idea.... Wouldn't Appa be the perfect treat bag? Uh, yeah it would. So I found fuzzy material, drove home and at noon started a project that needed to be done the next day. Tyler came home to what looked like an explosion of animal fur and fabric in the living room. Things like this aren't the things that keep our marriage together, they are the things that test it.
My crazy ideas.
I am just glad it worked out.

I couldn't decide if I should let Hadlee walk in the parade with him or not since she doesn't go to the school, but in the end it worked out and she got to go with him. They were so cute, I wish I had gotten a better picture.
After, Tyler asked Hadlee if she heard all the people cheering for them. She said no, that she didn't realize they were cheering, she thought they were trying to take Appa away from Calvin because they were all touching him.

Painted Pumpkins

Today was pumpkin painting day. Calvin painted his "scary" and Hadlee painted hers "pretty." Those were their descriptive words.

Paper Mache

Tyler and his crazy ideas.
He came home one day and had to paper mache.
That's right.
I guess they were talking about it in one of his classes and he became obsessed. We tried a couple different recipes over the course of a couple days to make the perfect paper mache. You would think we were making pumpkins since it's the season, but he wanted to make planets. After they dried we painted them but sadly I didn't take a picture before we smashed them and threw them away. Hadlee's was actually a pretty good representation of Earth. Mine was Venus and Tyler's was Mars (just like the book, but not planned Ü). Calvin's was an entirely pink planet yet to be named in a solar system somewhere.

PS: Paper mache is messy.

Whatever It Takes

We are still going strong with our Book of Mormon Challenge but a couple of nights have looked like this:

The Blood Bath

Calvin ran over his finger with a skateboard
and Hadlee lost another tooth. Her tooth was so loose, she didn't even feel it when Tyler pulled it out for her.

It seems like most days don't pass without a little blood, but yesterday they were both bleeding simultaneously.

Food Fest

We went to food fest yesterday because Hadlee cheered with her Jr. Cheer group again. She had such a great time, I also posted a video.

The kids got to ride a ride and also liked bouncing in the bouncy house and then just dancing and running around like hooligans.

1 Movie - 10 kids - 8 bags of popcorn .....

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON came out yesterday and I knew Calvin would love it, so I bought it while he was at school. He had a rough day though, and it was tough to find 5 minutes where he was being good so I could give him his present. He is still crying a little at the beginning of the video but it's still cute.

We were babysitting so we had some extra kids. Then, whenever any kids walked by, I just invited them in because I felt bad (everyone in our building has to walk by our house to get anywhere). At one point we had 11 kids in our house. A couple of them had to leave early, but it was quite a premiere.
