The Worth of a Soul

We were on our way to the store and, at the last minute, Hadlee asked what she could do to earn money.  Since we didn't have time for her to earn money, I asked her what she wanted to buy.  She said she wanted to buy some of those mints dad had the other day and asked again what she could do to earn money.  I told her that I would buy her some but the cost would be her soul.  She asked what that meant.  I explained that it meant I was in charge of all her decisions from now until she turned 18.  Whatever I say, she has to do from now on, including breaking up with boys that I don't like.  She carefully considered and then made her decision.  Her soul was worth a box of Altoids.
I am deciding between taking advantage of this (and using it against her for the rest of her life) and sitting her down to have a talk with her about the worth of her soul, and how it should be worth more than $2.40.

My kids are getting too old.

It times like Halloween that make me realize how old my kids are actually getting.  Gone are the days of me choosing Halloween costumes for them.  They are now to the age where they will decide what they want to wear and be sure about their decision.  Hadlee has been watching H2O Just Add Water on Netflix.

That's why she wanted to be a mermaid.  I started looking at costumes and couldn't find anything remotely close, they all looked like the Little Mermaid.  So I decided to make one, and did I have some plans!  We went to the store to buy fabric and I was having trouble finding exactly what I wanted.  Hadlee started pointing to pink and purple fabric, saying that the costume didn't have to be gold.  I told her that if it didn't have to be gold we could just buy one.  She seemed excited about that but my heart broke a little.  Last year was the first year I made their costumes and treat bags (sometimes I just make treat bags) but I enjoyed it.  I thought I would just buy the costume and accessorize with a shell treat bag and make some jewelry out of seashells but then when we were at the store, they both insisted on getting those stupid pumpkins!  I kind of just had to forget about what I wanted at that point.  Sometimes I think I kill myself doing the wrong things, you know?  Like maybe she just wants the stupid pumpkin pail, not a seashell.  I should just worry about other more important things.  Like, what book I am going to read with all my spare time. :)

Halloween

Once upon a time, on a Saturday before Halloween, Darth Vader met a mermaid.  They decided to go to the ward Trunk-or-Treat together.

While Darth Vader was running around, fighting Princess Leia and some Jedi (who were there), the mermaid decided to kick back with some fun dip.

Just when the things were about to get pretty ugly, The Memphis Mafia showed up and Took Care of Business. (TCB)  Look how tough they are.

Since Darth had such a great time with the mermaid at the Trunk-or-Treat, they decided to go trick or treating together on Halloween.  Although Darth had his light saber and was ready for those nasty good guys to show up, they never did.  There was no need for the Memphis Mafia.

This house was so weirded out by the idea of a mermaid and Darth Vadar together, they decided not to celebrate Halloween.  After a few minutes of Darth and the mermaid refusing to leave without candy, the homeowners caved and emptied their pantry.  I think Darth kept repeating, "You don't know the power of the Dark Side," and that scared them into coughing up the goodies.
