On Calvin's birthday, we went to Wet 'n Wild. Before this trip, he would never go down the bigger slides. He would only go down the little ones that he pretty much had to scoot down. I made him go down this slide with me once because I knew he would love it and he did. I had to keep going with him (probably a million times). If I tried to steer him away, he would push me toward the slide and say, "GREEN!" Finally, I told him I was done but he decided he wasn't, and went by himself. I posted a video of it.

After a while he got pretty daring, thanks to Hadlee's example.

He would jump out of the water and yell, "TADA!" After each time.
He got some gift cards for his birthday and got to pick out what he wanted from the store.

He really liked the Appa and Aang toys and took a picture of them himself

More presents in the mail

On Saturday we had a friend birthday party (his first friend party). Everyone has had water parties so we followed suit and set up a pool, slip 'n slide and a sprinkler in 'our backyard' and he played with his friends. We let him pick what kind of plates and decorations he wanted. He chose Star Wars which was funny because he had never seen the movie (Tyler decided to show it to him after he chose that). We held up Buzz and McQueen plates thinking it would be between those two and he pointed to the Star Wars plates still on the shelf. So I shrugged and bought them. That kid kills me. I wish I knew what he was thinking sometimes.
notice the Darth Vader balloon in the background.

No fancy cakes this year, he just got a sheet cake. I didn't serve the edge because I figured there was plenty to go around. Everyone must have been pretty hungry. Here's Hadlee eating part of the edge for her second helping. I guess it must have been an okay gluten/dairy free cake because it was gone.
I am glad it's over. I have realized I don't really like being a hostess. I would much rather make the food and drop it off. Calvin, on the other hand, loved every minute of it. I have never seen a kid so excited about a birthday party. He was practically shouting from the rooftops that he was going to have a birthday party. He kept saying to everyone he saw, "Calvin's Birthday!!" I love seeing him excited about things, it makes me happy.
win, win.
